Let's be honest: many of us don't truly understand the inner workings of the City of Omaha and it's protective maze of red tape. So to see how we can better serve our beloved city, we invited a panel of guests from different parts of our city government to help clue us in.
We were joined by the following to gives us ideas on how to improve our city impact:
Omaha Planning Department
Public Arts Commission
Omaha Public Works Department
One Omaha
There were many wonderful ideas thrown around, and really, it was helpful to hear that though there will still be a few obstacles to adjust, the city government is open to hearing our ideas and working with us to see if we can make them happen to make Omaha a more interesting and beautiful place to be. And it's always great to know that a "no" usually means "not right now/in this particular place or time, but let's talk about ways it may be possible". It's a good thing we are all tenacious about our city and will find a way to make our projects happen, because it is worth it!
So let's get out there and have more outdoor concerts, classes in open buildings, and art in each corner of our city. But be sure to get your permits first, of course!
And shout out to Weston Thomson from the Kent Bellows Mentoring Program at the Joslyn Art Museum for organizing these brilliant minds to meet us!
